Why Da You?

Da You (大友) brings a Taiwanese perspective to tea made in the heart of pu er country. Headquartered in Taiwan, with its own production operations in Yunnan, the company connects a deep culture of tea appreciation with close involvement at origin.

Founder and respected tea expert Mr. Liao Yi-Rong (廖義榮) has a fascinating story. His interest in ancient-tree pu er drew him to Yunnan as a young man, at a time when few Taiwanese travelled there. He moved to Yunnan in the 1990s and never looked back. We first met Mr. Liao there through our mutual friend, John Zhang.

A Journey Through Place and Craft

Explore the mountain character of Fengqing and Fengshan, then discover the floral elegance of Jingmai through a raw pu er dating to 2011.

Along the way, taste how different approaches to making tea shape the cup: the freshness and evolving complexity of raw pu er; the fermentation and careful maturation behind ripe pu er; the oxidation that develops black tea’s malty, fruity depth; and the gentle processing that preserves white tea’s delicate fragrance.

The collection also opens a conversation about pressing and time. Some teas were matured before being pressed into cakes or bricks; others offer a chance to discover how years of ageing soften and deepen their character.
