A light, fruity tea classic with notes of chocolate and caramelized maple.  Farmed organically at 1200m above sea level, in Anhui's Yellow Mountain, this tea is a beautiful example of one of the most celebrated black tea styles.


What is Keemun?

Keemun (Qimen | 祁門) is one of most famous black teas in China, and one of the first ones to be produced in the Qing Dynasty.  The name (Qimen) stems from the name of the county, in the Yellow Mountain region, where the tea originated.  The oldest production on record happened in 1875, when locals imported handcrafting techniques from Fujian and applied them to the local Maofeng cultivar.

Before the rise of India as a major tea producer, English nobility imported choice Chinese tea leaves to satisfy their culinary needs; Keemun was a natural choice: the highly oxidized leaves travel well by ocean (unlike green tea) and yield a rich brew that pairs well with the calorie intensive, traditional English Breakfast.
