SHOU MEI (寿眉) WHITE TEA
If you like aged Fuding white tea, Shou Mei may very well be your best options. Rich and flavourful, it is made with mature leaves and buds and minimally processed. The tea is sweet, and deeply aromatic when young, and transforms into a complex, soothing, and valuable herbal-toned treasure with age. Its name, which translates to "Longevity Eyebrow" or "Aged Eyebrow," refers to the tea's appearance: the leaves are often larger, slightly twisted, and have a shape reminiscent of an elderly man's long, graceful eyebrow—a symbol of longevity and wisdom in Chinese culture.
Mei Xiangjing, born in 1945 in Fuding’s Bailiu Village—known as “China’s No.1 White-Tea Village”—is a nationally recognized Representative of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage for Fuding white-tea processing. He is the grandson of Qing Dynasty tea master Mei Bozhen, who was instrumental in the development of Fuding's tea culture.
Over more than 50 years, Mei Xianjing has been a national driving force to systematize the production of white tea in Fujian. He has been a teacher to over 80% of local farmers.
Even more importantly, Mr. Mei is a most generous host who loves sharing both knowledge and tea.
