The past 13 years have been a ride! We opened O5's doors on August 24, 2012; thanks are due to some fantastic tea farmers, the wonderful people that pour (and have poured) tea at our bar, and all of you who drink our tea. Thank you!
Here goes a random collection of a few jewels that we have recently found while re-organizing our tea bar and warehouse. They are the last few packs of some wonderful teas that have brought joy to our team and guests.
SPIRIT TREE 2022, by Lau TV
Tea from a true giant of the forest. A few years ago, a good friend of Lầu (see below), stumbled upon some tea flowers while hunting in the rainforest. These flowers were at the base of a giant tree, easily identifiable as 'tea' if you're a squirrel... but very well camouflaged for people who walk in the forest.
Experience: hazelnuts, spruce tips, subtle muscatel
Handcrafting: sun drying
Origin: Vi Xuyen, Ha Giang, Vietnam
Harvest: March 2022
HIGH MOUNTAIN BLACK 2014 by Wen XZ
A fantastic black tea from old tea bushes that grow randomly in a village with no road access. All credit goes to our late friend Zhan Zhifang, who was a most important mentor in the tea world.
Experience: dark fruit, cacao, spice
Origin: Qiao Ban Village, Zhejiang, China
Harvest: April 2014

CASK AGED GHORKA 2013
This was our second attempt at aging tea leaves in wine barrels. These AV2 SF leaves lived 18 months in Melot / Cab Sauvignon barrels that Brian acquired from Black Hills winery. The result was a delighful brew that we served at our tea bar as a pour-over. We believed that 100% of this tea was gone, until we found a nice little box hidden in our warehouse.
Experience: muscatel, red fruit, oak
Origin: Kanchenjunga, Nepal
Harvest: June 2013
OLD TREE WHITE MOONLIGHT 2017, by Fan and Gao
A scouting trip to Ba Da Shan (near Menghai), led to the discovery of this brilliant White Moonlight (Yue Guan Bai). Multi talented Fan Xiuli and Gao Feng (music, calligraphy, incense, tea) have also been fantastic mentors to our team.
Experience: wildflowers, stone fruit, honey
Origin: Ba Da Shan, Yunnan, China
Harvest: April 2017

FOOTHILLS OF FIRE 2024, by Akira
We visited Akira San for the first time in 2014; he runs one of the coolest, organic tea farms on the foothills of Mt. Aso. We thought this 2024 small batch tea was gone forever until we found a tiny box. This mellow, naturally sweet tea is made uniquely with tender twigs from the tea bush, roasted to perfection. The colour of the brew is golden; the tea is very gentle yet satisfying.
Experience: toasted bread and nuts
Origin: Gokase, Miyazaki, Japan
Harvest: late May 2024
