Although Xiaguan dates the origin of its tuocha tradition to 1902, the modern factory lineage began in 1941 with the founding of \u003cstrong\u003eKangzang Tea Factory\u003c\/strong\u003e — \u003cstrong\u003e康藏茶厂\u003c\/strong\u003e, sometimes romanized as \u003cstrong\u003eKan Zhang \/ Kang Tsang\u003c\/strong\u003e — which specialized in compressed teas for Tibetan and frontier markets.
