UJI SHINCHA | KIRARI 31
-
We are beyond excited to share this 2020 limited edition shincha.
This is our first encounter with the Kirari 31 cultivar; Yoshida San's tea does not fail to impress! The first note coming from the dry leaves, as we opened the pack was fresh cut grapefruit. In a warm kyusu, rich edamame notes start to dominate, heralding beautiful umami. As we sip the tea, grapefruit and umami are elegantly complemented by notes of conifer leaves.
Kirari 31 is a fairly new cultivar. It stems from the cross between Saemidori and Sakimidori; compared to other cultivars in Uji, it resists cold weather and yield leaves early in the season, making it ideal for an early release shincha.

About The GrowerYoshida San is one of the most meticulous tea artists that we’ve met; the family has been making tea over roughly 300 years, and this is reflected obsessive attention to detail. In recent years, Yoshida San has launched some single cultivar and two cultivar blends that we are very impressed with.
