ABOUT THE GROWER
Grandfather Pan, son of a Chinese Nationalist soldier (and former tea artisan) moved to northern Thailand, via Taiwan, in the 1960’s. He was delighted to find ancient tea trees in his new home, which he started handcrafting according to his family tradition. In 1969, he also pioneered planting Taiwanese oolong trees in the hills of his new home town; ahead of his time, Mr. Pan always insisted in sustainable farming.
This 2018 ancient tree tea is processed like similar Yunnan’s White Moonlight; these cultivars, however, have little to no down and hence the dry leaves have a colour more reminiscent of raw Pu Er. It has a gentle yet strong, enlivening energy. Having tried the 2017 harvest of this tea, but no earlier harvests, we have a very short record of its evolution through time. Considering the quality of the tea trees and the flavour of this year’s tea, we believe it has significant aging potential.
