ABOUT THE GROWER
Grandfather Pan, son of a Chinese Nationalist soldier (and former tea artisan) moved to northern Thailand, via Taiwan, in the 1960’s. He was delighted to find ancient tea trees in his new home, which he started handcrafting according to his family tradition. In 1969, he also pioneered planting Taiwanese oolong trees in the hills of his new home town; ahead of his time, Mr. Pan always insisted in sustainable farming.
Lately, Mr. Pan has been exploring alternative tea making styles. Having taught and learned in Yunnan, Taiwan and Southeast Asia, Mr. Pan took inspiration from Assam’s black tea handcrafting and applied it to leaves from his ancient (several hundred year old) trees. This is the outcome.
