SUPERNOVA IN THE EAST
We named this tea after one of Dan Carlin’s most thrilling episodes on "Hardcore History".
In the Meiji and Taisho periods, Japan produced high-quality black tea for export to Western countries. A World War and the rise of the British Empire’s Eastern colonies as the preferred origin for black tea spelled disaster for Japan’s exports. Today, a very small percentage of Japanese tea is produced as ‘black’. Konomi San, whose company has roots in 19th century Fukuoka, is proud to produce this old school tea to preserve a tradition.
Highly oxidized benifuki and benihikari leaves yield a strong brew with pleasant tannin and strong notes of fruit and wood.

About the Producer
Konomi San's family started their tea business in the Edo period; they were the first family to become tea merchants in the Island of Kyushu. In that period, most of the local teas were kama-iri cha.
In the late Meiji period, Konomi's family were some of the pioneers that imported some production techniques from Uji; as a result of these pioneers, Yame is now famous for its stunning gyokuro and matcha.
