SHINCHA SEASON IS ON! This is our first score of 2024. It is also the first time that we encounter Sakimidori as a single cultivar. We are very happy about both!
<IMPORTANT NOTE> THIS TEA WILL BE FEATURED IN OUR JUNE 5 STEAMED TEA CLUB PARCEL
Tasting Notes: rich umami, longan, melon seed milk
Harvest: early April 2024
Origin: Chiran, Kagoshima, Japan (31.4ºN 130.4ºE)
Brewing Suggestions: 4g tea, 240ml water @ 65℃, 130"
We find that longer steeps at relatively low temperature extract beautiful fruity notes from these leaves. Ice brews are also superb.
THE SAKIMIDORI (さきみどり) CULTIVAR
This intensely green tea plant is a cross between two fairly uncommon cultivars: 茶本F1NN27 and ME52. Sakimidori was registered in Miyazaki, in 1997.
The cultivar is known for having a low content of tannin and very high content of chlorophyll. In warm regions (like southern Kyushu), sakimidori tea trees are ready for harvesting a few days before yabukita, making them ideal for early harvest sencha.
